Bringing my imagination to life.

Bonjour, I'm Ryuu Seika, a French cosplayer with a boundless imagination. Cosplay is where I can express myself in many different ways, and it's what keeps my creative energy going. It isn't my full-time job, but I take it seriously and put myself fully into every project.

I mostly make video game characters. I love the technical challenge of bringing to life outfits that defy the laws of physics. I aim for a realistic look, as if the character had just stepped out of the screen. I make my costumes myself, and I put as much work into them as into the transformation itself: makeup and wig included.

Story

I discovered cosplay at my first Japan Expo in 2010. I knew nothing about it, but once I understood people made their own costumes, I wanted to try. I learned to sew first, then props, wigs, makeup. Every character asked for something I didn't know how to do yet, and that's still the part I enjoy most.

Then I stopped for about ten years. Life went elsewhere, and so did my creative energy. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is what brought me back. I fell for its world and its art direction, and I wanted to make something from it. So I got the sewing machine out again, a little more mature than before.

How I work

I'm drawn to games with a strong story and characters who have some depth. Beyond appearance, I need to feel inspired by the character's personality.

Each cosplay is a small project of its own. I plan it from start to finish: references, art direction, build schedule, photoshoot. I like that part almost as much as the sewing.

I don't work alone, though. I team up with photographers who share my creative vision, and when a project calls for skills I don't have yet, I'm happy to bring in other artists and crafters.

I also share the process on Instagram: patterns, tests, techniques, and the things that went wrong. Other cosplayers taught me a lot when I started, so it feels right to give some of that back. Over the years, it's also taught me how to create content and talk to an audience online.
