Sophie was the character who introduced me to Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. In the prologue, she faces the Gommage with a quiet acceptance, even though she knows she cannot change her fate. That scene still moves me every time I watch it.

Sophie.
I made Sophie for my 33rd birthday, and she brought me back to cosplay. For me, her acceptance of a fate she cannot change is a beautiful lesson in life.

The costume
I recreated her Gommage-day outfit: a polka-dot blouse, a red skirt and a beret made from the same fabric, finished with a rose garland.
I wanted the skirt to swing freely while keeping its shape, so I chose linen and gave it a wide flare. I lined it with cotton poplin to add structure and keep it opaque. I hand-embroidered a few gold details and painted the buttons to match the reference.
I adapted a pattern by a French pattern maker for Sophie's blouse, adding a Peter Pan collar, waist darts and shorter sleeves. I used 100% cotton.
I mixed shades, sizes and textures to give the garland depth. I made some roses from polyester bias tape and mixed them with ready-made paper roses, including the one Gustave gives her. I glued the flowers onto a cord with a hot glue gun.
